Yay for January 20th! Dear 44,

I thought your speech was good, and it hit most of the important notes I thought it should – although potentially in somewhat vague language (but hey thats politic-speak right? 😦 ).

I’m hopeful, but not stupid or euphoric.

Good luck Mr. President.   Even with your vaunted intellect, I think you’ll need it.  You’ve inherited a relative shithole – the worst conditions a president has stepped into in how long?  I have no idea, certainly in my lifetime.  Not to mention all that pressure from being the first something or other…you’ve certainly got your work cut out for you.

On the bright side, if you pull this off (ie get us back on track, pull us through the recession, deal with the “war”, healthcare, etc.)  you will certainly go down in history not just for the firsts, but for some massive achievements.

It would be sweet if you didn’t let us down too much.

  1. Congratulations to President Obama and the people of the US of A.

As a foreigner who wants good things to happen in any and all parts of the world, I wish Americans will work more in harmony with their president. How successful Obama can be as American president will depend on how well his fellow-Americans can rein in their demands for their expectations to be satisfied.

    Keep the hopes alive.
